Smart DryFireMag Laser Training Systems: How They Work
Dry fire gives you a lot of useful practice without a trip to the range. The catch, especially with many striker-fired pistols, is what happens after the first trigger press: the trigger stays dead until you reset the action. Add a laser cartridge and you may get shot feedback, but you still have to interrupt the drill to rack the slide.
The Smart DryFireMag Laser Training System was built to solve that problem as one setup. The Smart DryFireMag resets the trigger without slide manipulation. A compatible Smart SureStrike™ laser cartridge activates with the trigger press. The barrel safety pipe system adds a visible physical safety component.
That means you can keep both hands on the pistol and run repeated trigger presses instead of stopping to reset the slide after every rep. From there, you can choose visible Red laser feedback or Infrared (IR) for use with compatible electronic targets and simulators.

WHAT IS A SMART DRYFIREMAG LASER TRAINING SYSTEM?
This is an important distinction: a Smart system is not a standard DryFireMag paired with an ordinary laser cartridge. The magazine and Smart SureStrike laser are designed to communicate with each other, with the barrel safety components completing the setup.

With many pistols, a normal dry-fire press leaves you reaching for the slide before the next rep. That changes your grip and breaks up drills that are supposed to flow from one press to the next. The Smart DryFireMag removes that extra step.
LASER FEEDBACK WHEN THE TRIGGER IS PRESSED
What you see depends on the laser. Red gives you a visible indication on the target. Red and IR can also be detected by compatible electronic targets or simulators, where the system can register the shot for more structured practice.

For most buyers, Red versus IR is the decision that needs the most explanation. The difference is less about the magazine and more about how you want to see or capture each shot.

The Red Smart SureStrike produces a visible laser indication. It can be used with ordinary physical or paper targets or with compatible electronic targets and simulators.

QUICK DECISION: Choose Red if you want the option to train with simple physical targets and see the laser directly. Choose IR if you plan to use a compatible electronic target or simulator and want the laser itself to remain invisible.
ADDING ELECTRONIC TARGETS AND SIMULATORS
A Red Smart system can be as simple as a pistol and a paper target. If you want scoring, reactive feedback or more structured drills, you can add compatible electronics. With IR, those electronics are necessary because you cannot see the laser with the naked eye.
Current options offered by DryFireMag include the LaserPet II, I-MTTS electronic targets, and Smokeless Range Home Simulator. These options are compatible with both Red and IR Smart DryFireMag systems.
MODULAR COMPATIBILITY AND CALIBER ADAPTERS
Some Smart setups can also cover more than one caliber. Depending on the firearm and Smart DryFireMag model, an adapter ring or caliber kit may let the same laser cartridge work with another compatible configuration.
For example, compatible adapter options are available for calibers including .40 S&W, .357 SIG, .45 GAP, 10mm, and .45 ACP. Compatibility is model-specific, so do not choose an adapter based on caliber alone.
